Querido Amigo Stettner:
Let us chat a bit. I can’t ever write to you unless I’m kiffed. If it weren’t for kif I’d do nothing; I wouldn’t write letters or books, or draw pictures. I’d be an old man in a corner if I didn’t smoke. Thank you for the copies of Stroker 16. And thank you too for the copy you sent to the señorita. Amigo Stettner, I’ve done a lot of work this year. I have almost four books ready. I’ve drawn a hundred and thirty pictures in black and white and in color. I’ll send you one of the new ones. Now I’m busy doing a second play, and I hope to finish it shortly. Amigo Stettner, I saw him running on top of the trees, like a dragon. Running day and night, and fire comes out of his mouth. Neither water nor earth is of any use against him. It’s a pity. He’s burned everything, and he looks happy. It’s only because of a fly that he’s stopped breathing fire. He sleeps now by day and wanders at night. When they asked him about it, he answered: I like the darkness. There’s no difference between day and night. But the night is sweeter than the day. The writers who are people and the poets, and all people who are people understand what the night means. And better if there is hashish, magic music, words of fantasy. Like the King and the Queen floating in the air. Amigo Stettner, there were some Americans and Englishmen discussing the various kinds of food there are in the world. They asked me which food I liked best, and I said there were two. What are they? they asked me. Hashish and love, I told them. They looked at me and said: You’re crazy. And I began to laugh, and said: Thank you. Adios, hasta Dios quiere. Good luck,
